When Sami, Jonna and their daughter Ellie decided to experiment with leaving the corporate world, they came to Ubud first to try out their new simple lifestyle. We transformed a traditional Javanese limasan into a one-of-a-kind modern house for them. Leaving the cold climate of their native Finland they welcomed the idea of an open house. In a crucial design moment, Sami had to decide between a grass roof and a tile roof. He chose grass. The family’s home has an almost church-like quality. All panels were reclaimed from the original structure and all colors are original. The house is 2 bedrooms and one bath with a pool. 140 meters square.
